In current conflicts, the application of indirect fires, close air support (CAS), and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) aerial platforms is usually a requirement in order to effectively mitigate risk to ground forces. The Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) or Joint Fires Observer (JFO) is the Ground Force Commander’s (GFC’s) tool to control the battle space using artillery and aerial platforms. The JTAC/JFO uses several different pieces of electronic equipment in order to communicate with supporting elements and safely and effectively direct fires.
JTAC / JFO Power Management Use Cases: Vest-worn VPM-402, ruck or vehicle borne SPM-622, fixed base ABC-812
